2020 Call Federal Scholarship Winners

It is our pleasure to announce the 2020 winners of our Alice S. Pearce scholarship program. Named for the credit union’s first CEO, it is an honor to play even a small role in the educational journeys of these tremendous student members. These decisions were difficult to come by, as once again the committee was blown away by the accomplishments of all the students who applied.

Mitchell Flattum

Mitchell, a Cosby High School graduating senior, plans to attend the University of Virginia in the fall. Mitchell’s admiration for the sacrifices of our military men and women has been Mitchell’s inspiration for serving and volunteering for our veterans. With great passion, Mitchell actively fundraises for veterans residing locally at Hunter Homes McGuire VA Hospital in Richmond, where he established the Keep Our Veterans Warm fundraising project that raised over $5,100 to purchase winter items for vets. Mitchell is an active member of the Boy Scots of America where he has made a lasting impression of his service to the community.

Bryn Shannon

Bryn is a graduating senior at Trinity Episcopal School where she plans to attend Georgia Tech Engineering in the fall. Bryn, a competitive rock-climber also enjoys whitewater kayaking. Bryn shares her passion for the outdoors and environment preservation in her volunteerism though the Kids and Kayaks program. By volunteering, Bryn has been able to share her experience in water safety and the importance of environmental protection with the children in our community. Bryn plans to continue her passion for the outdoors by continuing her education in engineering, and hopes to use her knowledge to develop technology for reducing climate change.

Samantha Hanczaryk

Samantha, a passionate lover of animals, will be graduating from Glen Allen High School with plans to attend Costal Carolina University this fall. Samantha has taken her passion and made the lifestyle change to become a devout vegan. Samantha has dedicated her time in educating herself on the impact we have on our environment, and has shared her passion with her community though her internship with Virginia League of Conservation Voters, and founded the Happy- Earth Club at her high school, where she has had the opportunity to make a positive impact with her peers.

Zachary Collins

Zachary will be attending Christopher Newport University this fall, and is a graduating senior from Hanover High school. Zachary is compassionate to those who have experienced physical injuries and will be working towards his education in sports medicine and physical therapy. With his own personal experience dealing with physical challenges, Zachary is passionate about his future in the medical field and looks forward to his future in being a leader in his community.
